Parents, this one is for you. You’ve texted your child countless times tonight and it’s now way past curfew. You pay for their $100 a month all-inclusive cell phone plan every single month, but you find yourself questioning this decision. Are they ok? Are they in jail? Are they getting into trouble? They don’t text. They don’t call. They’re going to be grounded for life when they get home. Yep, there’s no way any excuses are gonna fly this time around.

4. The Mother

Ok, so maybe you don’t have a kid. Maybe you ARE the kid and your mom is wondering where you are. You’ve been out all evening partying with your friends, getting into more trouble than you ever dreamed of and basically having a night you’ll remember for the rest of your life. Your text messages keep blowing up but the music is cranked up and the bass is hopping. You can’t hear a thing in here. Alright, so you’ve kept that excuse in your back pocket in case the scenario ever materializes, but tonight is actually much less exciting than that. You do have a pretty good excuse, though. You call this person, but instead of answering, they just text you back. It seems like no matter how many times you call, they don’t take the bait. Instead, they simply text you again. Talking in person is for the weak. The future belongs to the texters!

This person will text message you from the other room, or in certain circumstances, the same room you’re both in. Why? Text messages are really not meant when you’re within speaking range, and yet, this person can’t understand that. You’ll talk about this very issue, but it will be over text.

Last, but most certainly not least, the bad timing texter has a knack for causing serious problems for you by texting you at the most inopportune moments. Exhibit A: You’ve just jumped into a cab with your boss and co-workers. Your boss asks to borrow your phone to get directions to a good place to grab lunch as a team. Sure, no problem. Well, as your boss pulls up your maps app, Bad Timing Texter sends you a somewhat (ok, very) personal text out of the blue. The remainder of this drive will definitely be interesting.

Yes, cell phones can be annoying, and we’ve all wanted to throw them at the wall on more than one occasion, but what would we do if they all suddenly stopped working? Nothing. We’d do absolutely nothing, except maybe sit around and try to fix all the cell phones. If you’re like most of the civilized world, you wouldn’t even know how to survive. For example (and be honest), you got and replied to at least one text message while reading this article, correct? Case in point.
