17. Spider-Man and Venom

When they’re not busy trying to take each out, it’s a known fact that Spider-Man and Venom are actually best buds. This scene didn’t make any of the published comics, but there’s reason to believe in a future Marvel tale, the two will reconcile their differences and have a dance party. Their go-to jam, of course, will be the 1960’s Spider-Man TV show theme song.

16. Batman and Robin, Classic Style

Cue George Clooney (yes, complete with his Bat suit with built in nipple spots). Not quite ready for that again? Ok, then cue Adam West and the gang from the old show. And quick, Robin… to the Bat Cave! This image is very reminiscent of Bill Watterson’s Calvin and Hobbes climbing the tree to their G.R.O.S.S. (Get Rid Of Slimy girlS) headquarters. Mike chose to use poses from Watterson’s work not because it would be easier, but because it would better evoke the memories and feelings people held for the original strips. As a result, these images really do take us back to our childhood.

15. Indiana Jones: Like Father, Like Son

You might think that Indiana seems a little short next his father, Indiana Sr., especially since actors Harrison Ford and Sean Connery (who played Indiana Jones and his father, respectively) are only 12 years apart in age. Hollywood casting trivia aside, Mike stuck to some self-imposed rules when creating these homage pieces, and stated that the hero of any given duo must always be the shorter of the two when depicted in the drawings, just like the height difference between the realCalvin and Hobbesnever changed. This father son piece was among Mike’s favorites to do. According to Mike, his own dead bears an uncanny resemblance to Harrison Ford himself, who is coincidentally Mike’s favorite actor.
