Zito to stay in California for one heck of a big dollar amount. This upcoming seasons shortage of marquee starting pitchers available for trade or as free agents is driving the salaries on some average pitchers through the roof.

$126 million? Kinda high, don't you think?

I thought so, but the market for starting pitchers is ridiculously slanted toward the players right now. I saw earlier today that Mike Hampton was signed by the Rockies for $121 million.

I'm sure the Twins are cringing at what price they'll have to pay Santana to kep him around. And then Liriano too.

I'd be scared if I was them.

I wonder how well Liriano will do after having the TJ surgery. I hope he doesn't go the road of Kerry Woods.
