Music Your Favourite Song Lyrics!

(Is there a thread already dedicated to this? I hope not.)

Anyway, what songs have you heard that have words you really love and can relate to? Why not include said song words in your response?

I'll go first.

Fainted World
by Century Sleeper

In a fainted world
We're almost one
The sun by my side
Lit the morning room
We'll be here once again
With a mind at sail
You'll fall through my hands
Though I wish you'd stay
There's nothing more to hear of your name
The brightest star reveals from where we all came
When we split the skies
Never eye has understood
The endless name
From which all life began
Can you see that where I've been
Is beyond your sight
I can stand in everywhere
I am all in life
You will hide your faces beneath your own hands
And time will show everywhere you've been
Now day will break melting every cloud
As war integrates every land of ours.
I love the abstractness of these lyrics. For some reason, they make me think about the creative art process. I don't know why.

Those are some great lyrics Eph. What my favorite lyrics are can change with my mood. Today these are my favorite.
The Great Pretender by The Platters

Oh yes, I'm the great pretender
Pretending I'm doing well
My need is such
I pretend too much
I'm lonely but no one can tell

Oh yes, I'm the great pretender
Adrift in a world of my own
I play the game but to my real shame
You've left me to dream all alone

Too real is this feeling of make-believe
Too real when I feel what my heart can't conceal

Oh yes, I'm the great pretender
Just laughing and gay like a clown
I seem to be what I'm not you see
I'm wearing my heart like a crown

Too real when i feel what my heart can't conceal

Oh yes, I'm the great pretender
Just laughing and gay like a clown
I seem to be what I'm not you see
I'm wearing my heart like a crown
Pretending that you're...
Pretending that you're still around

That is actually one of my favourite songs. I'd never really stopped and considered the lyrics properly until now. That feeling of loss is quiet palpable in those words.

Nice choice, Hilander!

My favourite band, Boyce avenue, wrote a song for their good friend after his wife unexpectedly took her own life and these lyrics were what they thought she would have said to him if she could have:

"Briane"

You’re ashamed about
all your fears and doubts
and how I hurt you.
Can you make it back from the aftermath
And how I left you

Nobody wants to be alone,
with the fear of letting go.
If you could hear me say
It`s gonna be okay
would you be okay

And though I`ve gone away
I still see what youre going through.
It kills me everyday,
to know I killed what meant most to you.
So when you pass my grave,
leave a rose for what might have been.
But know that it`s okay
to shed your fears and find love again

For better or worse you`re the one,
I never thought I`d hurt
But looking back on these dreams
nothing is what it seems;
…know that you`ll wake up to better things

And though I`ve gone away
I still see what you`re going through.
It kills me everyday,
to know I killed what meant most to you.
So when you pass my grave,
leave a rose for what might have been.
But know that it`s okay
to shed your fears and find love again

I hear you say
I don`t know how and I don`t know why
but there will come one day
when I will tell you all the things inside.
Just know theres someone above you to help you!

And though I`ve gone away
I still see what you`re going through.
It kills me everyday,
to know I killed what meant most to you.
So when you pass my grave,
leave a rose for what might have been.
But know that it`s okay
to shed your fears and find love again

here it is if you wanna listen:

That's a moving song, Danno, but I didn't shed a tear because I'm a MAN, dang it. (Okay, I sniffled a bit.)

Seriously though, great share. You have good taste.

As for me, the lyrics to this particular song always get me. I'm so glad I discovered Amorphis!

Enchanted by the Moon
by Amorphis

Upon my birth, I came close to death
I wore the night, dark skies tucked me in
Stranded in the mire of sorrows
The lightless caves in ravines

The power rushed over me
The serpent ran me through
A moment stole my time
A might surged over me

My passage enchanted by the moon
The light with shadows blended
My delusion imprisoned me
My enemy destroyed me

A sword cleaved my skull
An arrow pierced my heart
A sword cleaved my skull
And the wind took my soul

Somebody broke my bones
Somebody tore my flesh
Somebody broke my bones
Somebody crushed my chest

The power rushed over me
The serpent ran me through
A moment stole my time
A might surged over me

Yes, they are all pretty awesome so far, aren't they? :)

Was listening to the Johnny Cash cover of this song today. It's one of my favourite ever songs.

Hurt
by Nine Inch Nails

I hurt myself today
To see if I still feel
I focus on the pain
The only thing that's real
The needle tears a hole
The old familiar sting
Try to kill it all away
But I remember everything

What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end
You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt

I wear this crown of shit
Upon my liar's chair
Full of broken thoughts
I cannot repair
Beneath the stains of time
The feelings disappear
You are someone else
I am still right here

What have I become?
My sweetest friend
Everyone I know
Goes away in the end

You could have it all
My empire of dirt
I will let you down
I will make you hurt
If I could start again
A million miles away
I would keep myself
I would find a way

I love Hilander's choice of The Great Pretender, although I only know Freddie Mercury's version. It is certainly a song I relate to.

One of my favourite songs is Have it All by Jeremy Kay, it is quite simple, but there are lines in it that I love. This song has the ability to lift me up if I am feeling down, and I can listen to it over and over again.

Have it All (official acoustic video) - YouTube

Some days I feel like crying
It don't matter if it's rain or shine
I feel like my heart was broken
At least a million times

Some days I wake up dreaming
Feels like I've never even woke
I answer life's big questions
As if it's one big joke

Maybe it's too soon to be sure
But I really do believe that someday
We're gonna have it all
So I try to hard to keep the rhythm of a train
Rolling right along
When the ride gets rough you got to carry on
Carry on

Some days I feel like singing
I sit back and just groove the day away
Maybe pick up a guitar
And play what I want to play

Maybe it's too soon to be sure
But I really do believe that someday
We're gonna have it all
So I try to hard to keep the rhythm of a train
Rolling right along
When the ride gets rough you got to carry on
Carry on

Today I feel like laughing
Seems to be no reason at all
And if the world stops spinning
I'm not afraid to fall

Maybe it's too soon to be sure
But I really do believe that someday
We're gonna have it all
So I try to hard to keep the rhythm of a train
Rolling right along
When the ride gets rough you got to carry on

Maybe it's too soon to be sure
But I really do believe that someday
We're gonna have it all
So I try to hard to keep the rhythm of a train
Rolling right along
When the ride gets rough you got to carry on
Carry on
