Sultan of Swat
Got this from another forum, I thought it was fairly interesting.
Let's suppose you made it on the jury panel
Now assume the case is largely in favor of the prosecution.
No crime of murder or rape has been committed, but it is a serious crime.
Take your pick on money laundering, assault, grand theft, etc.
You are approached by an associate of the defendant and offered a fairly substantial sum of money, you can decide the number but it cannot be overtly extravagant yet do not diminish it, so no sums of 100k or $500.
Just a fair sum, let's say for sake of argument a year's salary, tax free.
If you hang the jury by voting not guilty.
You will probably be the only one to vote that way.
Assume you will only receive the money after the jury is hung, and assume you know for certain you will get it.
Also assume if you reject, the associate will approach other jurors and one of them will agree to take the bribe.
There is no threat of bodily harm to you either way or chance of being held accountable.
