Worldwide Political/Religious reform

The world today is filled with hatred, hatred for this country or that one or this religion or that one.

If given the power and all powers to be must abide by your decision alone in either religious or political reform with the goal being to bring more peace to the world, which would you choose to completely reform worldwide?

-Which do you feel would have most impact on making the world a better place and why?

-What might be some key changes you would make on either the world political or religious systems?

Well, I think if you could even possibly "reform" religion, it would fix politics too mainly because it's also impossible for people to leave their faith behind when in a political realm. Their spirituality is part of who they are, I'd imagine most faithful couldn't fathom doing such things without their faith playing a role.

Humans naturally fight, it's biological, not a creation of our own. We'll always disagree and we'll always squabble.

In the religious sense I think the only thing that would allow people to live harmoniously would be if judgement day came and there was a set time to live before the end. That would terrify evryone into behaving for how ever little time they had. I think there is too much history and ethical differences for religions ever to get on. Something would need to happen to unite all of mankind under a common cause like the afore mentioned judgement or war with another planet. Not likely so we will continue to throw rocks at each other.

This is all a little far fetched though -we have been moving towards a more secular belief system but it is not enough. Perhaps the erradication of religion or the unification under one would do the trick.

If I had my way with political reforms I would try to erradicate poverty on a global scale -this would go a long way to helping peace. I would achieve this through far stricter controls on capitalism moving towards global socialism.

Even if we had a unifying cause, I have a feeling we'd only leave each other alone for a little while.

Yeah, good luck with either of those. Unless you plan on brainwashing all every semi-religious person on the planet...

Huh? The world is filled with hatred? I don't think there is alot of hatred in the US. Hate crimes are only up a small percentage. Most people are kind to one another and care about their communities.

I love everyone. Most people have love in their hearts. Please explain what you are talking about.
Thanks.

Uh, excuse me?

I'm all for gassing prisons every so many years. Oopsie, like the humane society, had to get rid of the unwanted unsocialized animals. We are way too humane and our laws aren't designed for the number of population we currently have.... Look at Scotland releasing the Lockerbie bomb master!!! Awww, he has cancer, send him back to Libya. hmmmm, then there's about a dozen airplane incidents worldwide involving.... death and destruction.

These prisoners have bad genes, they are mutants. They aren't good for society as we know it. I'm all for prison assisted suicide and a plan to maintain a safe distance so that law abiding people can enjoy freedom worryfree.
I think this is part of the problem honestly. I'm assuming you don't see this as hateful, but I'm betting most people wouldn't think so. Truth is, hatred is not one color. It's not one mood, one attitude or one situation. A lot of things breed hatred and a lot of reasons can increase it. Religion is a favorite scapegoat but is quite a good example at the same time. In the words of George Carlin, "More people have been killed in the name of God than for any other reason."

No Jane, I was merely wondering how you could stand by both of those statements as they contradict one another. One of them has to be more correct than the other. No one is judging you here, I was actually surprised by your response in light of previous comments you have made on the forum. Nevertheless, this thread is not about you.

People are hateful because they're uncomfortable with each other and our respective cultures essentially. When people don't understand something in the slightest, it's uncomfortable because it's unknown and thus, mysterious. With the unknown comes anxiety and eventually dislike because that's all we can do until we learn about it. Problem is, we get so fixated on the anxiety and dislike that it becomes our view of them thus completely bypassing the understanding step. In my opinion, if we simply gave people more of a chance to show who they are or if we spent more time learning about other people, we could eliminate a lot of hatred in the world.
