Also caught by Norton. Avast nearly gave me a heart attack when the 'sirens' went off though.

I don't know where the link came from. I don't play 'games' online.

Does that program automatically get rid of the viruses? I haven't heard of it before.
It usually stops the Virus on entry. Avast is very similar(& a good alternative) to AVG free.

It uses slightly more memory than AVG, whilst its live scan is more thorough the downside of this being it makes tasks marginally slower(thats why the RAM is important). If you have a machine with at least 2gb then I'd install Avast over AVG.

damn right, the talking updates always gets me. Usually as I am in another room late at night, I suddenly hear voices only to realize its the computer.

As for the Link, I'd do a full system scan just to be sure it could be internal.

The updates don't bother me as they happen when I switch the machine on, but that alarm happened after a while when I was half alseep, and it was a lot louder than my volume setting is.
