Using birth control a fireable offense in DC

Late Thursday night, the House of Representatives voted in favor of “H.J.Res. 43: Disapproving the action of the District of Columbia Council in approving the Reproductive Health Non-Discrimination Amendment Act of 2014.” If enacted, the legislation would make using employer-based health insurance for in vitro fertilization or birth control pills a fireable offense in Washington, D.C.
‘Hobby Lobby on steroids’: House votes to overturn DC law so employers can fire women for using birth control

This is stupid, if the insurance covers it you should be allowed to use it and not be fired for it. Why are they wasting time on this? How about vasectomies or Viagra, bet that is fine with them. Seems like republicans are always going after things that have to do with women. There are some things about republicans I like but stuff like this will most likely keep me from voting for them.

Thoughts?

I guess the implied message is that women don't belong in the workplace, they should be barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. (Not by law) <rolling eyes>. Next thing ya know they'll pass a bill that makes it legal for Blacks to ONLY work on cotton plantations.

There is all kinds of things they need to be turning their attention too like our aging infrastructure, ISIS, protecting our borders but no they have to waste their time on this. Yet they will wonder why Hillary ends up being president.

It's becoming more and more difficult as a Canadian to resist thinking that the United States has developed some kind of shared mental disorder. I struggle with understanding even the motive of such a move. This is functionally enforced Catholicism. Birth control bad, hoards of new people putting added strain on already overtaxed resources, programs, and infrastructure good! Bring 'em in from overseas, from across the Mexican boarder, pop them out at home as fast as you can. PEOPLE, people! We need more PEOPLE! Get on it!

I don't even know what to say anymore. Sometimes when I hear stuff like this, I think that maybe I don't have it so bad in my country.

Currently, purely for health reasons, I am 2 different medications that would almost certainly make me lose my job in the US if they were even administered to me by the pharmacists in the first place. And neither of these 2 have anything to do with birth control, since I am very much single and not in any kind of sexual relationship. Not that that is anyone's business but mine and perhaps my doctor.

Sometimes I read these stories and thank God for my ridiculous government that forces me to buy a tv license. Not looking so bad by comparison all the time.

I think all governments have something ridiculous that they do, ours just seems focused on women's reproductive system, at least the republicans seem to be.

We need more kids to abort. The clinics can never get enough business. Hey, it creates jobs and is good for the economy.

So far this bill hasn't went anywhere however many groups say they will fire anyone using there insurance for birth control pills anyway. If they do I see a lawsuit in their future.

They say the Reproductive Health Non-Discrimination Amendment Act of 2014 violates their constitutional right because women might use their insurance for the pill. I think they are taking this antiabortion thing too far. Birth control pills do not cause abortions.

Anti-abortion groups vow to ignore DC law and fire women for using birth control anyway

For a country that likes to pretend we want government out of our lives, we're very freaking willing to let the government setup shop in womens' vaginas.
