Ticker Symbols and Their Nicknames/History

I was just looking through some NASDAQ stock names and came up with a few that were kind of funny. Since I'm new to the stock market, it helped me understood who some forecasters are referring to, so thought I'd share the info, in case anyone else is in the same boat as me (oh, bad joke .... live on an island and use the term "in the same boat" )

My favorite is Microsoft - it's MSFT, but is often called "Mister Softee" (now that's funny, IMHO)

Here's a couple of others:

Pebbles - for PE Biosystems (PEB)
Slob - for Schlumberger (SLB)

I may post some more if I come across them. I know are helping me as I get into more discussions with seasoned investors. Hope they can help someone else out too.

Wouldn't it be funny if somebody ended up with "LOL" or some other internet lingo abbreviation as their symbol? :D

"Hey guys I just bought 5,000 shares of OMG"

There were some symbols I came across that thought were funny but I can't think of them at the moment. I will try to find them and post them.

not a plastic bag
POS has always been my fav. The POS is supposed to mean Point of Sale, but Piece of S*** is more commonly thought of.

If a stock has 4 letters, it is NASDAX.
.ob means it is not traded on a major exchange.
.pk means pink sheets (primary bankrupcy stocks)

Apparently Pe Celera Corp. is sometimes referred to as this because its ticker symbol is CRA and the P is 'cause it's been abused by stock specialists, while the .COM is because it's a genome stock which a lot of investors think will be the next dot.coms (as they were at the turn of the millenium).

It's not quick OMG or POS(H*T), but darn close :D
