Okay here's my preview of today's game 1. Pitching matchup CHI: RHP Javier Vazquez (7-4, 4.54) The right-hander was victimized by one big inning against the Rangers on Wednesday, giving up four runs in the third inning. Vazquez exited after 99 pitches, having allowed six runs on 10 hits over six innings while striking out seven. Vazquez is 1-6 with a 4.13 ERA lifetime against St. Louis, having struck out 55 over 52 1/3 innings covering eight starts. STL: LHP Mark Mulder (6-4, 5.32) Mulder finally got a win and showed some improvement in his last start. He needs to continue getting better, keeping his sinker down in the strike zone and all his pitches off of the center of the plate. As a long-time veteran of the American League, facing a lineup with a DH shouldn't bother him too much. Player to watch Juan Encarnacion, hitting close to .400 in June, could continue his high-octane attack against Vazquez, a pitcher he has hit well (.368 in 19 at-bats) in the past.
