Okay here's my preview of today's game 4.
Pitching matchup
STL: RHP Chris Carpenter (10-4, 2.68 ERA)
Carpenter is rolling again, just like he did last summer. Even on a night when he doesn't have his best command, he can keep the opponents off the board. The reigning National League Cy Young winner has lasted at least seven innings in eight of his past nine starts. Also in those nine starts, he's allowed two or fewer runs eight times. He's mounting a charge at a second straight Cy.
CHC: RHP Carlos Zambrano (11-3, 3.27 ERA)
Zambrano extended his winning streak to eight games in an 8-6 win against the Mets on July 25. He fell behind early, as the Mets batted him around for four runs on five hits through just the first two innings. Despite the slow start, Zambrano recovered to get the win, going seven innings and limiting the Mets to only three more hits and one more run in his next five innings of work. Zambrano, a rare switch-hitting pitcher, also belted an opposite-field home run, his fourth of the year. He has pitched at least six innings in all but two of his starts this season. Zambrano got a no-decision in his only start against the Redbirds this season, allowing two runs (none earned) on four hits in six innings.
Player to watch
With Albert Pujols, Scott Rolen and Jim Edmonds all hitting under .225 against Zambrano in their careers, John Rodriguez might be the player to watch. Rodriguez is 6-for-13 against Zambrano, with two home runs and a double.
