The new Chrysler Corporation

Registered Member
It will be interesting to see how well the new version of Chrysler Corporation does once its acquisition by Cerberus is completed. The Detroit newspapers have given quite a bit of coverage to the troubled 9-year DaimlerChrysler experiment, and one can hope that the new version is able to regain its pre-1998 momentum. One key move may be an recently-confirmed alliance with China-based Chery Automobile Company, which could result in major cost-saving synergies.

Meanwhile, while resuming its North American identity, Chrysler should also find ways once again to harness its local executive talent pool in leading the company responsively relative to its unique customer base in the US.

With creative public policy solutions, the automotive industry's health care struggles may eventually work out in Chrysler's favor as well. Otherwise, the company's foreign manufacturing presence may need to increase. This will be a story worth watching.
