The Epic Choral Music Thread

    I think I'd easily rank epic choral music as my favorite type of music. I've always liked it and have been curious about it. I was talking to ysabel about choral lyrics and that inspired me to start this thread to see what everybody else has to say.

    Basically, many of the epic songs you hear in movies have people singing odd sounding "words" or "phrases" in the background.

    A few examples:

    YouTube - Navras - Juno Reactor

    YouTube - Lord of the Rings The Two Towers - O Fortuna

    YouTube - E.S. Posthumus - Pompeii

    YouTube - Spiderman & X-men Lacrimosa

    YouTube - Here Comes The King

    YouTube - ... To Die For (Uncut) - Lion King Complete Score

    YouTube - Returns, King of Pride Rock (#2) - Lion King Complete Score

    Then there are the ones that seem like they are not saying anything, and I am pretty sure they are not:

    YouTube - Star Wars - Duel Of The Fates

    YouTube - danny phantom requiem for a dream

    So, who here knows much about this type of music? Are the lyrics generally random or what? I assume it's in Latin?

    I don't know much about this but I've always liked this type of music. Any info would be appreciated.

    Also, feel free to post other epic music you like in this thread and specify whether it has lyrics or just sounds.

    Duel of the fates actually has lyrics? What part? The part I skimmed when making that post sounded like random ooohs and aaaaahs to me.

    I guess now that I listen to it it does have lyrics. It's funny if what you just posted is the actual lyrics though. I guess they just pick words that sound good and figure nobody will ever look them up. :lol:

    I like that type of music but I don't actually have any that are on your list downloaded, except O Fortuna....

    Here are the latin lyrics, translated to English:

    O Fortune,
    like the moon
    you are constantly changing,
    ever waxing
    and waning;
    hateful life
    now oppresses
    and then soothes
    as fancy takes it;
    poverty
    and power
    it melts them like ice.

    Fate - monstrous
    and empty,
    you whirling wheel,
    you are malevolent,
    well-being is vain
    and always fades to nothing,
    shadowed
    and veiled
    you plague me too;
    now through the game
    I bring my bare back
    to your villainy.

    Fate, in health
    and virtue,
    is against me
    driven on
    and weighted down,
    always enslaved.
    So at this hour
    without delay
    pluck the vibrating strings;
    since Fate
    strikes down the strong man,
    everyone weep with me!

    Pretty cool if you read them whilst the song is playing

    One of the biggest movies we have here is Les Visiteurs (+ sequels). It's famous for the theme song too (credits part).
