The End of the world!

Will the world come to an end tomorrow? According to Maya’s long-form calendar 21st December 2012 the world will come to an end. There have been many doomsday predictions before but none of them have come true, the world is still intact and we are still here to share our thoughts and feelings. Is this another one of those silly prediction or superstitious beliefs?

It is true that this universe will eventually explode and come to an end someday but nobody knows when that is; no human will ever know since it was not the humans that fashioned it or gave details to this amazing universe in the first place.

The strange thing is, many people take notice of these doomsday predictions but very few people actually wonder what would be their fate if the universe was to have a cataclysmic end? Where would they go after this life? What would be their final resting place? Or do they simply hope that their body would decompose and disappear never to be brought back to life again?

It is illogical to think that the complex universe and the life it contained will come to an end and there will be nothing to continue life. If the entire universe and all it contains come to an abrupt end what was the point of it all? These millions of stars, planets, constellations, the earth and all its species and all that was contained beyond could not have been placed here for it to be wasted and without a bigger goal! What was the point of human beings going through sufferings, pain, sickness if there was no place to bring an end to all these misery and enjoy a blissful existence for eternity?

It is unthinkable for me to imagine that there are many who have committed severe crimes against humanity and they will never face justice because they have died! If the universe abruptly comes to an end without a continuation of life in another universe where final accountability and ultimate judgments are made then this life would seem rotten and a waste of time for some and amazing for others. That would be totally unfair. For the same of creating equality between all another form of life is essential.

Have you ever thought about bringing to justice the likes of Jimmy Seville who have committed crimes against so many vulnerable people but simply died? Surely death cannot be an escape for them. Life would seem terribly unfair if that was the case. Or the likes of Hitler who killed so many Jewish people during the Holocaust? How do we bring to account Aerial Sharon for his crimes against Palestinian people especially in Sabra, Shatila and Jenine? How do we serve justice to the 40 thousand innocent people, men, women and children who have been massacred by Bashar Al Asad in Syria? And how about the children at the Sandy Hook school in Newtown Connecticut whose lives have been tragically ended by the barbaric gun attack recently?

I believe the world will certain come to an end but there would have to be another life form to come where the ultimate peace and justice is realised and the souls come to a final rest in tranquillity and contentment.

I am sorry I do not know when the world will come to end and I cannot confirm it for tomorrow either. I guess we just have to stay ready every day!

What's your take on this?

From my understanding the ending of the Mayan calender does not mean that will see the end of the world but simply the end of that year in the same way that the world does not end when we get to the 31st of december, we simply buy a new calender and move on.

It is true that some day the world will come to an end be it with the sun going into supernova and our area of the galaxy falling into darkness and into a deep freeze. Nasa don't seem to think this is possible, that our sun is just not in a position to do this.

What is also true is that if something was coming to hit us we would likely find out about it at the same time as we learnt about it, you would see it coming. We also have to remember that if something is coming it has already happened and we cannot change it, the stars that we see in the sky for all we know are already dead, when we look up we are seeing objects that are thousands of years in the past.

For me it doesn't even matter, if the world does come to an end tomorrow well stuff happens, we can't change that and we can't stop it.

Many say the Mayan calendar ends with the what is known as a Baktun, it's the end of that period, which is some 26,000 or so years, and begins all over from the beginning of the calendar.

My understanding is the sun will eventually destroy the Earth in about 5 million years if nothing else destroys it first. Like gin, I figure if it comes to end tomorrow it comes to an end. There is nothing we can do to stop it.

The whole thing is a load of garbage because the Mayans didn't take "leap year" into account.

Technically based off of their calendar the "end of the world" should have already happened. So there's nothing to worry about. I made a joke thread about it too because it's nothing to take serious IMO...even if the leap year thing was in play, I'd still not believe it.

Millz, they didn't need to take leap year into account. Leap years are our invention to keep up. In other words, their calendar tracks our rotation around the sun more accurately than ours does. We have to throw in a day every four years or at some point winter solstice wouldn't end up on December 21st anymore. Their calendar ends on winter solstice, tomorrow. We have winter solstice tomorrow as it should be ONLY because we throw in a leap day every four years.

No one knows when it will all end, I really don't want to know since it probably can't be stopped. I strongly suspect man will have been long gone before that happens if it is because of the universe expanding and our planet becoming colder. What happens to our spirits when it ends, who knows, maybe it will be the end of them too.

I'm not worried.

I absolutely refuse to believe the world ends tomorrow. The Walking Dead doesn't come back until February... and I'm NOT missing that. Haha.

But in all seriousness, it won't end tomorrow. It will end in October 31st, 2017 when the zombie apocalypse begins.

If the world ends, life will restart from zero (another Adam and Eve or Big Bang Theory, whichever you believe). We're probably the nth version of this world already. So yeah, life goes on...just not ours. :D

I don't believe it will end tomorrow, but like CO mentioned, the World will probably be destroyed in a few million years by the sun.

I'll tell you one thing.

I can't wait to see all the suicide reports from people who wanted to die quickly, next to supposed suffering.
