Tattooed names

Have you ever tattooed names on you skins? Names of your partners, friends, family ... etc? What do you think about it?

To me, it doesn't make much sense. Especially when you tattoo the name of your partner who might as well be an ex in the future.

I think it's nice when people tattoo names of loved ones on themselves, like their parents or children. But I agree it's never a good idea to put your partner's name on your body. However, my brother-in-law has my sister's name on his wrist in the middle of a tattoo he has and it actually looks beautiful.

I would never tattoo a name of any man on me.....namely, a partner, or husband or lover, whatever.
I have seen people that do....and whatever floats their boat.
And I have seen people who tattoo their children's names on them....and that's Ok I would guess......but for me, I only have one tattoo, and it's a name.....but it's in memory of my Mother.....and it simply says: Mother.
It's on top of my right foot...photo of feet attached :)

My Cousin has 3 letters tattoo'd on his arm, just so happens that his two daughters and his wife all share those initials :hah: I thought it was a genius way to do it, because even worst case scenario, he has 2 other girls he can say that tattoo is in honor of.

I personally think a name is better than having a face tattoo'd...

I'm pretty sure I'll never get a tattoo, but if I did get one I'd get someone's initials tattooed onto my forearm probably. I would see them everyday and be inspired.

Ohmigosh..yes, the FAIL one...I have seen it before.
WTF happened??
I hope the poor soul who is sporting that tattoo got his money back......geesh, it honestly looks nothing like the photo of the pretty young woman.
That's sad.....

i think its quite cute when people get it done although i never would get one of a partner as if we broke up it would always be there
i think if i ever have children i might like a tatoo of thier name, although i would more than likely be far to scared to get one done ever.

I have initials that are incorporated into a celtic design tattooed on me. It's a memorial tattoo for a good friend who passed away. I actually got the tattoo done with a friend (she got the same) on the 1st year anniversary of his death.

I wouldn't get a lovers name tattooed on me. I'm not sure I would get anyone who was livings name tattooed on me. You can't predict where any relationship is going in the future. And I know that sounds kinda morbid.

I dunno, if you get a decent artist, who specialises in portraits then you're pretty safe. I mean, look at pretty much every portrait tattoo Kat Von D has done. But even lesser known artists. I read a tattoo blog, and this was just in the latest post and they're decent. Of course if you go to some back street, dodgy looking tattoo artist that you've never heard of, chances are you're going to get shit like what you posted.

As far as women (girlfriend or wife), even though I'm really a "Soul mate," "let's grow old together" kind of guy, I'd still never do a name like that. You never know what's going to happen, unfortunately.

A letter is a unique idea; as far as names of kids, deceased family members, etc. I think that's really cool. Faces of kids seem to be kind of overdone, especially with young Moms.

You're 100% correct... problem is, the Kat Von D's of the Tattoo world are few and far between. I could go to every Tattoo Parlor here in Fresno and not find a single artist that I would say does half as good of a job as she does.

For that, I say that the risk factor of Portrait tattoos is far to great for me to gamble on.
