That didn't take long:

Official: Stephen Colbert is the new host of CBS’ Late Show.

Release:

The CBS Television Network today announced that Stephen Colbert, the host, writer and executive producer of the Emmy and Peabody Award-winning “The Colbert Report,” will succeed David Letterman as the host of THE LATE SHOW, effective when Mr. Letterman retires from the broadcast. The five-year agreement between CBS and Colbert was announced by Leslie Moonves, President and CEO, CBS Corporation, and Nina Tassler, Chairman of CBS Entertainment.

Letterman, the legendary, critically acclaimed host of the CBS late night series for 21 years, announced his retirement on his April 3 broadcast. Colbert’s premiere date as host of THE LATE SHOW will be announced after Mr. Lettermen determines a timetable for his final broadcasts in 2015.

Replace one crappy host with another. I hate Letterman, but I hate Colbert even more.

Thoughts?

My first question when I saw this was that I wondered if Colbert will act the same on the night show as he does on comedy central.

I mean, is that how he really is or is he playing a character?

I find him really funny though so I am happy about this. Never was a huge Letterman fan.

Old people everywhere have to hate this. Leno and Letterman are gone....Fallon and Colbert replace them, love it.

It's a character and he won't be playing that character on The Tonight Show that's for sure.

I imagine he'll be on Letterman soon and will be himself so people really know how he is.

Why do they always have to find another talk show host? Can't executives think out of the box anymore? I think a guy like Steve Carell would make an awesome host. Vince Vaughn would be great to.
