This deserves it's own thread. This whole thing is becoming a huge issue.

Source: No ultimatum issued by NHL in Kovalchuk contract saga

I have a strong feeling that the NHLPA won't agree with the ultimatum the NHL as issued, meaning that the Kovalchuk contract will be denied again.

One thing that better not happen is the NHL touching contracts that have already been aproved in the past. If that happens then the NHL will look like an even bigger joke then it already is.

NEWARK, N.J. -- The NHL has signed off on Ilya Kovalchuk's latest contract with the New Jersey Devils.

Five weeks after rejecting the Russian's landmark 17-year, $102 million contract with the Devils, the league approved a revised 15-year, $100 million deal on Friday after reaching an agreement with the NHL Players Association on an amendment covering long-term contracts.
Surprise. It was approved a little bit ago.

We can finally put this to bed now. Should end all the silliness, and if the NHL is smart they will allow the other contracts alone, Luongo, and Hossa for example since it's already been approved.
