Signature Links

Alright, so lots of you may be opposed to this idea (for reasons unknown) but I think it would be a cool idea. Not necessarily good or bad, just an idea. Of course, I think this because I work in SEO and my 400+ posts would benefit me in my work, but I don't believe that allowing dofollow links in our signatures would hurt at all. I have heard people say "They're annoying" before, but I don't see how. It's just a couple works made into a link to another site. Read the posts, not the signatures, fool!

So that's my idea. You could set it up to where signature links can only be posted after 100 posts or something and that would be a sure fire spam blocker.

Or, if no one else really cared about this idea, which I doubt most of you would, maybe I could make a big donation to GF to be able to have dofollow links in my siggy. =)

I think links in our signatures are a great idea provided they are not links to a website that sells stuff like insurance, shoes and so on or links to porn sites.

And your idea of letting people put links in their sig lines after achieving 100 posts is also a great idea.

Ands the links are NOT annoying IMHO

Well, sites that I run are sites that deal with payday loans and such; things that would stand among insurance, etc. But, nonetheless; I don't think it would hurt anything, as long as they weren't porn/tasteless links.

A link to some random site is no worse that a stupid picture in someones siggy.

We did have them, but they buggered off, probably due to advertising.

Which was annoying when my links were to posts of Hanzo making a twat of himself.

Signature links are advertising. Basically they will benefit you and your site, but nobody else on the forum.

That's your opinion. A lot of people prefer less advertising on their forums, which is why we don't allow spammers to post links. You could argue spammers don't hurt anybody either.

We ban spammers for advertising these type of sites on a daily basis. We can't make an exception for anyone because they have a certain amount of post. It's advertising and it's against the rules that we wrote for GF.

There's a huge difference in between spammers and active members who make a contribution to this community. --More than just a contribution of content, but also monetary.

So before my opinion gets written off, remember that I'm not someone who just registered and posted a link to my site, then disappeared.

We've taken that into account already, we have a set of rules for a reason. No one is allowed to advertise websites/forums ect.

Like I mentioned beforehand, we cannot change our rules for anyone, not even an established member.
