Should situps be spaced out in the same manner as lifting weights?

no. you can do abs everyday. at least that is what my trainer told me.

I would really base it on your soreness. If your abs are sore, don't work on them that day. But if you feel no soreness and you want to...then do it.

When your muscles are sore it means they are repairing themselves after your previous workout. If they're not sore, then they should be fine for another go.
