If Gretzky's number 99 has been retired the Babe's number 3 should also be retired. Babe Ruth was bigger than the Beatles.

I'm actually surprised it is not already retired. They retire numbers in football like there is no tomorrow why not baseball?

The Yankees retired it but it hasn't been retired throughout baseball.

I'm a huge fan of Babe Ruth and I do believe that they should retire his number, he's the greatest player of all time and they've retired Jackey Robinson's number, which makes sense but I believe they should retire is as well.

Another apples and oranges issue. Yea for Ruth nay for Robinson.

It was pretty dumb retiring number 42. The reason it was retired was to recognize Jackie Robinson's contribution but it did nothing more than put "him" in the closet.

42 was like number 23, a symbol for black youth.

Retiring a number for an entire sport should be for the sport not an 0de to political correctness.

On a side note the number retiring thingy has completely gone South.

The Yanks have retired almost 20 numbers? Billy Martin?

    Ron Guidry? Reggie Jackson?

They need to retire both Babe's number 3 and Gherig's number 4. The Babe's number 3 is iconic.

I can get into this idea...I'll say yes. Babe is the greatest hitter of all time, why not?
