Weird Sex and Marriage With Robots

Doc

Trust me, I'm The Doctor.

This is a serious thread idea and I hope you can keep as open of a mind as possible. The premise of my thread relates to intelligent, human-like robots that have gained sentience preforming sexual acts with human beings. This is a very real issue that could pose real ethical problems in the future. How would you want to handle regulation of sex between human and robot should robots gain sentience? Marriage?

Since this is a two-parter I'm going to address the sex with robots part first. I think that robots will gain true sentience in the distant future and there will be sects of humans that will want to try to gain sexual satisfaction from them in some way. No matter how we try to regulate these machines they will have free will and be able to decide, just like a human, that they want to have a sexual relationship. I don't think that, even with regulation, sex between humans and robots can be stopped.

Slightly graphic:
We already have men and women using largish machines to achieve sexual satisfaction in the porn industry. It isn't much different than that.

Marriage between sentient, human-like robots and humans is another issue altogether. It would be hard not to draw parallels between segregated marriage and gay marriage. If this robotic being is capable of love then I don't think we should stop them from marrying another human. You can even argue that the robot can inseminate a female with a donor. I don't think we'll ever be able to create an artificial womb so a surrogate would be necessary if the male was not a robot. The same goes for cases of a "sexually ambiguous" robot marriage.

I'm sure it would be another fifty year fiasco like gay marriage is now. People will spend decades complaining about how unnatural it is, about how it will lead to people marrying animals and children, blah, blah. I've always been of one mindset and it applies here, if someone is not causing any problems and enjoying themselves, why should we be interfering?

It one thing to allow same sex couples to get married, they are human. Machines are not human and don't have the same rights nor should they as humans. Using a machine for sexual satisfaction isn't the same as being with a human that has feelings and will bleed if you cut them. A machine is a machine no matter how you look at them. If someone wants a relationship with a machine go for it but don't expect me to want to give that machine equal rights to humans.

I'm not sure how I feel about this issue, especially the marriage part. But I don't see why sex with robots should be regulated. As it has been pointed out, there are already large machines being used for sex. Hell, a vibrator is a small machine and is not much different.

But if there are robots that are fully self-aware and can think for themselves and make their own decisions, it could be argued that they have feelings as well. What if the robot does not consent to sex? Would it be considered rape? Would robots need to be protected by the same rights as humans?

I agree this non human, non living entity pretty much has no rights, as a creation one manipulation of mans technology. Sentience is a long ways off too. Right now algorithms run the world but there's a limitless gap between predictive modeling based on patterns and having free will and consciousness. Machines will never be able to think in my opinion.

And when they do then I'm looking for Keanu to save us.

Are you sure about that? There are already robots that can think for themselves. Here is an example:

This kind of technology is still very new, but imagine what this can become over time.

We have already been able to reverse-engineer other organs in the human body. There's no reason to think we won't be able to do the same with the brain. Granted, the human brain is a lot more complex than anything else, but it still functions in such a way that it can be recreated in a computer.

Yep, I'm sure about it. That's my opinion, and I made a disclaimer that Keanu is here to save us for the time that the machines rise...lol
