Report: NHL pushing for Seattle expansion for 2014-15 season

The rumors about the NHL moving to Seattle are about to be reignited.

http://prohockeytalk.nbcsports.com/2013 ... 15-season/

With Seattle expansion rumors about one city comes speculation about who else would join them as an expansion partner.

If only a team was added to Seattle, that would leave the league with an odd number of teams (31) and for balance sake there’d have to be a second. Quebec City, Toronto, Portland, Kansas City, and Las Vegas make up the group of usual suspects there.

Thoughts?

The NHL needs to be removed as one of the four major sports if it is not in Quebec City. I am sorry, but a fan base that has over 85,000+ members for a non-existent hockey team should not be denied. A city that gave up 200 million for a new arena. Fans who spent 13 million of their own money to reserve seats in said arena. A fan base that travels all over North America buying up 2500+ tickets to a game so they can all dress in Nordiques gear to remind the NHL. A city that has had a march over 80,000 people dressed in Nordiques blue should not be denied. Unless... Quebec is a relocation plan for one of their idiotic franchises. Yet... we know how well they are protecting Phoenix.

The Seattle fans sill love a hockey team at first, then it will wear off in 5 years after the team has not made the playoffs, finishing in the bottom 3 every season. Once again money stupidity throws common sense out the window, thus the reason Bettman should be canned. The NHL doesn't need to expand right now. They need to fix their problems south of the border. New Jersey, both teams in Florida and the other teams losing money every year get to keep their team but like crypstishock mentioned, Quebec is totally ignored.

I'd also like to note. Las Vegas will NEVER get an NHL team. I will be shocked if they ever get a Major Four team. The Major Four spent a lot of time watching Ontario laws last year when they were proposing a single game betting law for casinos in the Province. All four leagues voiced their concern in the courts over the law. They do not want a team based in a city where you can walk in a bet on a single game.

Al Strachan, the old fart who used to be a pretty good insider, has made it known that Quebec was in talks for a relocation team and it was not Phoenix and people would be surprised on the team. I believe it was also him that made it known former Prime Minister Brian Mulroney was also in on the discussions. Again... this could all be taken as a grain of salt because many insiders are wrong a lot. Al is well known and knows many of sources and he is retired so he has nothing to gain from posting such "rumours".

I always thought a Seattle team could start a great rivalry between them and Vancouver, for this to work, I think not putting a team in Quebec City would balance things out quite nicely.

It cant be Toronto or Qc, they're in the EAST, it would have to be a western city, no choice due to the realignement

The "new realignment" is a silly argument. Realignment holds zero weight to a proposed expansion to Quebec/Seattle. You need to know why? Here is why. Realignment, the current realignment, is only scheduled to last until 2015. Can you guess what 2015 is? 2015 would be the earliest that a Seattle/Quebec expansion can happen. After the 2014-15 season, realignment will expire and they will then decide if they want to keep status quo or change it again. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to move Columbus back to the "Central Division" and have Seattle in the "Pacific" while at the same time slotting Quebec into the "Atlantic". The largest hurdle here is... After Joe Juneau retired, the NHL lost its only Rocket Scientist.
