You hear people say things such as "In a former life I must have been a doctor" and other similar things. This is sometimes just something people say but there are also people who firmly believe in the idea of reincarnation.

The idea that every living thing is essentially assigned a "life force" that cannot be extinguished. When any living thing dies it returns in the form of another living thing. Hindu teaching says that your actions in one life will determine how you end up in the next life, and that your actions in past lives have directly affected your current life. Your karma, both good and bad follows you throughout your different incarnations. The idea is to achieve complete union with God after working your way up the "food chain" so to speak, which ends the cycle of reincarnation.

Do you believe in reincarnation? Why or why not?
