Porn sites to get special internet denotation?

    There was action to get pornographic sites a special denotation like www.porn.xxx or www.porn.adt and it got me thinking, this may be one of the greatest ideas ever. It would solve problems with people accessing porn at work, kids accidentally viewing it (by restricting the porn extension) and would make it a hell of a lot easier to find porn if that's what you're doing.

    What do you think? Could this work? Should it be done?

    Hmmm that is a very interesting idea...

    I think I'll support it...then there's no excuse for a kid saying he didn't know what he was doing when their parent asks them why they went to a certain porn site. Everyone would then be accountable for what they are viewing...no matter where they are; work or home.

    I also agree that it's a good idea. This actually was being discussed a few years ago in Congress and it didn't pass. I was surprised.

    What about the sites that are operated and based overseas? The US internet is currently unfiltered, meaning all of these sites could continue to operate and be accessed under other extensions unless an additional law was put in place to allow the US to filter porn sites that did not use the correct extension.

    So there are some other issues that would come up. Unless the above scenario was addressed then the entire system would be pointless, considering that a majority of porn sites are run from overseas.

    Definitely a good idea. Makes it easier to find it. :D

    I don't get .adt

    Is that just a random denotation you added?

    adt = adult? maybe?

    I don't really have an issue accidentally clicking on a porn page. It's never happened to me before, but their own extensions is not a bad idea at all. I wonder how that would affect advertisers on sites that are not porn though. Such as, if I download torrents, I normally see tons of porn adverts on those pages, even though it's not really a porn website.

    That's a good point. I don't really see porn sites having a different denotation as doing anything. You could still reach it via a link so you could still accidentally click on a porn site from a site ending with .com, whether through advertising or some other sort of link.

    So along with having porn sites have a special denotation, i think porn advertising should be restricted to sites with that special denotation. That would be a good move.

    ^ Correct.

    I would say porn adverts would be restricted to porn sites only and I'm just fine with that.

    Is it a good idea? Sure, it has it's advantages. Do I think it could be done? Nope. There's simply too much pornographic content on the web to categorize it all. But I can see how it would be good as a preventative measure to stop children 'accidentally' (or otherwise) stumbling across it.

    I would say that it's an even better idea if the adverts get restricted to denoted sites as well.

    Why would categorizing be difficult? Make porn illegal on everything but the .xxx or whatever extension and give a grace period of a month for all porn sites to move and relocate. Those who do not will be charged and shut down (if they're in the US and if not, they'll be blocked off).
