Hey folks! My name is Tani B, and I come from the dirty glove. Or the mitten. Or whatever.

I am queer as all get out. I am also a total history geek, I love reading, listening to music, and watching movies, and I'm passionate about politics, though my penchant for hiding from the world often means that I have a more firm grasp on the big picture--we are skidding toward destruction--than the pesky details...

I live with my brilliant, beautiful girlfriend and our four deranged cats, and I make my living doing a little of this and a little of that, with some writing and copy-editing thrown in here and there.

The last movie I watched was the documentary "Dogtown and Z-Boys", which is one of my all-time favorite docs, and I've seen it now about six or seven times. I'm currently reading George Lakoff's The Political Mind: A Cognitive Scientist's Guide to Your Brain and Its Politics", which, so far, is pretty darn fascinating, if not a little disturbing and depressing. Finally, I've been listening to a lot of garage-rock-y music, and The Heartless Bastards, The Detroit Cobras, The Duke Spirit, and Noisettes are getting an awful lot of play around here, though I still dig classic rock, soul, and blues, as well as a lot of the new soul music out there, like Sharon Jones and the Dap-Kings, Alice Russell, Kinny and Horne, and the Quantic Soul Orchestra.

I'm hoping to participate in discussions about culture and politics, and I am an unabashed progressive who identifies as a democratic socialist. I think our country has been artificially divided and manipulated by culture wars that distract us from the real crises we are facing, and I am just as disappointed with the Democrats in our country as I am with the Republicans. Well, almost, anyway...

Today I will be cleaning the house and preparing dinner while awaiting the return of my sweet honeybee, who has been away for the past two days. I am all aflutter at the thought of our glorious reunion, and so I am off to rock out and clean up.

Have a great day, everyone!

Welcome!

I too am a docs enthusiast! If you're in a garage-rock-y mood you may want to check out The Love Language, especially the "Lalita" tune. My most recent garage-rock-y favourite!

You indeed sound very awesome.

Oh, shoot. Now the insecurity begins. Am I doing this right? Is there a way to respond to a specific comment? See, now my reply to Dabs is just hanging out there, far away from Dabs :(

I knew you did.

It's seriously one of the best intros ever. Most people, you have to drag shit out of them.

use the quote feature if you want to respond to specific comments, at the bottom of their posts.

I'm totally reading your posts with your voice in my head <3

Wow! What a fantastic welcome you've all given me! I feel downright warm and fuzzy :)

Jeanie: I made it! Sorry it took me so long! I love you like nobody's business--thanks for bringing me into the fold! Plasma.

EllyDicious: I won't forget :) And I can be pretty prolific with the spouting of my opinions, so, I'm sure you'll be seeing me smearing my guts all over this place...

LifeinthePond: Thanks for the tip--I am off the track down The Love Language right now!

And honestly, to all of you, thanks for making me feel so at home here! Jeanie is just one of the greatest things walking the earth, a gol'darn national treasure, and I'm eager to connect with any and all of her people!

Cha cha cha...
