Former Maple Leafs head coach Pat Burns has died of cancer at the age of 58.

Reports yesterday indicated that Burns’ health had taken a turn for the worse after fighting lung cancer for numerous years.

Our condolences to his family and friends.

Sad, sad news. Pat was a terrific coach, but an even better person. He would give the shirt off his back for you. He'll definitely be missed.

By condolences go out to the family of the former Cop, Coach and great man.

When I read this I missed the "Burns" part skimmed to the Maple Leafs and I thought you said Pat Quinn.

Always a sad day when we lose a piece of Hockey history like this. I'm not to familiar with Pat Burns as I am the other coaches, only in his 50's... thats so young. Sad sad day.

Pat Burns was a fiery type of coach, he let you know if you committed a mistake, but he did to make you a better player, and make you understand what you have to do in those type of situations.

He was a like a Mike Keenan type of coach but better in my opinion. He stuck for his players and wouldn't throw anyone under the bus so to speak. He probably would still be coaching if he never caught cancer.

You'd like him a lot Ice.

Sorry guys, it seems the news of his death was a bit pre-mature.

Looks like Burns is still alive, not doing well but alive.

Burns refutes reports to TSN that he has passed away
