Is it possible to add a program to my external that will password protect my files? Is there a free way or should I buy software? I'm not sure about the whole "encryption" thing. I'm still learning deeper mechanics like this.

    Help?

TrueCrypt is a pretty popular solution for this.

TrueCrypt - Free Open-Source On-The-Fly Disk Encryption Software for Windows Vista/XP, Mac OS X and Linux

It's open source and freeware. Uses encryption. A friend at work is using it for his thumb drive and he spoke highly of it too when he mentioned it. It's highly thought of in the security arena.

There's tutorials on the site if you want to see how it functions in detail:

Just don't forget that password! :D
