In a change of heart, Novell has ceased distributing proprietary software modules such as 3D video drivers that plug into the Linux kernel.

It was the right thing to do. It's hard enough to convince management types that Linux is a good idea without adding the possibility that the presence of proprietary drivers in Novell's distro could invite some kind of legal trouble.

The potential for legal issues is exactly the kind of thing that appears in a badly written business magazine article and causes my CIO to send me a red email with a panicked directive to "document our exposure on this issue and get back to me ASAP!!"
