NHL, NHLPA Captains' Jersey Auction raises $80,145 for Hockey Fights Cancer

NEW YORK/TORONTO – The National Hockey League Players’ Association (NHLPA) and National Hockey League (NHL) online game-worn 2007-2008 Team Captains’ Jersey Auction came to a close last week, earning $80,145 to benefit Hockey Fights Cancer. The autographed game-worn captains’ jerseys, which featured a 10th anniversary Hockey Fights Cancer commemorative patch, were available for bidding through NHL.com and NHLPA.com.

The jersey worn by Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby generated the highest bid at $15,207. Other notable final bids include jerseys worn by Washington Capitals forward Alex Ovechkin ($9,020) and New York Rangers captain Jaromir Jagr ($5,388).

Hockey Fights Cancer is a joint initiative founded in December 1998 by the NHLPA and NHL to raise money and awareness for hockey’s most important fight. It is supported by players, member clubs, NHL alumni, the NHL Officials’ Association, professional hockey trainers and equipment managers, corporate marketing partners, broadcast partners and fans throughout North America. To date, Hockey Fights Cancer has raised more than $9.5 million.
