New Transistor Technology

Well, I keep seeing news reports about both Intel and IBM refining the micro transistor process, to be able to build chips smaller and faster.

This has the potential to be the biggest news in the computer industry in a long time! Basically, chip technology hasn't changed in 35 years, we've just gotten better at it. But this is some new stuff, and it will potentially have a huge impact starting in maybe a year or so.

Look out!

Perhaps this will mean speeds of 10Ghz in the near future. Now that would be nice with a few 8MB sticks of RAM. :D I hear those are on their way towards mass production too! :)

Yeah, there's got to be a theoretical limit to how fast we can make processors - you know, speed of light stuff. Making these smaller transistors will potentially be able to speed us up to maybe double where we're at now. But I wonder what the limit will really be.
