The NBA is investigating whether Isiah Thomas, the president and coach of the Knicks, ordered a hard foul that touched off a brawl with the Nuggets on Saturday night, several people involved in the investigation said yesterday.

With I-bleed-Carolina-blue Nuggets coach George Karl obviously trying to show up Isiah Thomas for firing Larry Brown by keeping his starters in at the end of a rout and watching them dunk and preen, Karl gave the equally dumb Knicks a reason to start things.

The weekend brawl between the Nuggets and Knicks might have an impact on the Allen Iverson talks if the league's punishment for Denver includes any delay in the Nuggets' capability to make trades during what should be lengthy suspensions for several players.
    -- Philadelphia Inquirer

Hard to believe the way they've been playing, but 76ers sources said Phoenix has inquired about Allen Iverson. The Suns want to deal Marcus Banks, and Kurt Thomas is no longer vital with Amaré Stoudemire playing again at a high level.
    -- Chicago Tribune

The Grizzlies may have the best package for Allen Iverson with Pau Gasol, Eddie Jones' expiring contract and young players such as Kyle Lowery, Rudy Gay and Hakim Warrick. But Jerry West's hands are tied by an ongoing ownership fiasco. With financial losses piling up, there's a good chance Gasol could be moved. West apparently went off on the team and coach Mike Fratello last week.
    -- Chicago Tribune

Faced with a major rebuilding project, Sixers president and GM Billy King is believed to be asking for expiring contracts, draft picks and young players, in unknown order, in exchange for Allen Iverson. King said the Sixers have received calls from every NBA team but two.
    -- Philadelphia Inquirer

Nuggets guard Earl Boykins looks to be on the trading block. A source said Sunday the chances are "better than 50-50" Boykins will be moved before the Feb. 22 trade deadline. The source said a deal has been discussed that would send Boykins and Nuggets forward Eduardo Najera to Dallas in a three-team trade that would facilitate the Nuggets getting Allen Iverson. However, the executive called that a "long shot."
    -- Rocky Mountain News

A report quoting a source in the Denver Post yesterday revealed that the Nuggets are trying to acquire an expiring contract -- Seattle's Danny Fortson, Dallas' Austin Croshere and Portland's Jamaal Magloire are some possibilities -- to use in a trade for Allen Iverson.
    -- Philadelphia Inquirer

Magic General Manager Otis Smith wants to put to rest any speculation about trading Grant Hill because Hill has an expiring contract.
    -- Orlando Sentinel

Bulls GM John Paxson has scheduled a meeting Monday morning with P.J. Brown and agent Mark Bartelstein to discuss more fully Brown's unhappiness after the veteran forward told the Tribune he hoped his short Bulls tenure would end soon.
    -- Chicago Tribune

Rashard Lewis had a 90-minute meeting with his agent Saturday, in which they cleared up their differences and settled on a negotiating plan to deal with the Sonics. He clarified his stance on a potential two-year, $25 million extension and said he would entertain an offer during the season if the Sonics wanted to talk
    -- Seattle Times

Wally Szczerbiak went down with a sprained right ankle against Charlotte and did not return. Given how quickly the ankle swelled up after the veteran was helped from the court by teammates, Doc Rivers suspects the forward will not be available for the Celtics' upcoming trip West, which ends Jan. 1.

He could have ordered it. Maybe to try to suspend some of Nugget's players and risking his own players.

Knicks are just selfish. And so is their coach. Why would they do this?? Just stupid
