OK, so I did my best to alphabetize the list and to incorporate the films into it that aren't yet showing up in the OP.

So many fantastic films here, though I have to wonder if this list really is a list of movies "everyone should see" or if it includes some films that just happen to some GFers favorites ;) Like, I absolutely LOVE "Pineapple Express", but I'm not sure I think it's a film "everyone should see". Still, I know that this is largely subjective, and though I drew the line at "Pineapple Express" for myself, I'm still sure that a lot of folks would quibble with the choices I *did* go with:

Being John Malkovich
Corpse Bride
The Hours
Pi: Faith in Chaos

Waking the Dead
Waltz with Bashir

Also, I left out any documentaries, because, at a quick glance, it didn't seem as if anyone else included anything from that genre, and, for my own ease, I also only included one foreign-language film, because despite the fact that so many of my own choices had already been listed by other folks, I still had a devil of a time narrowing my list to five (or six ;)

Thanks and that's why I <3 you!

I would like to add Life is Beautiful/La Vie est Belle/La vita è bella. I know that some people easily shy away from foreign movies because they either have issues with watching a subtitled movie or dubbed seems distracting. But this is one movie that I was so glad I watched. I remember trying to watch it when I can barely understand French and had to watch it in the only available setting: Italian with French subtitles. I "endured" it because it was such a lovely movie and it's engaging. Then yay for DVDs I finally rewatched it with Eng ST although now it wouldn't matter to me either way.

Other foreign language films for me (non Eng/Fre): Cinema Paradiso Cinema Paradiso - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia and Belle Epoque http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Belle_Époque_(film)
