MLB Matt Harvey to have Tommy John surgery...

Apparently the rest and rehab approach didn't work. Mets right-hander Matt Harvey will undergo Tommy John surgery to repair the partially torn ligament in his right elbow, the team announced.
I'll never understand teams that think will do a torn UCL some good, why not get the surgery right away and possibly come back next year instead of missing the whole season.

I've always harped on that as well. When I step back and look at it I understand why an org would want to avoid going under the knife and losing an entire year. The sample size if still too small for anyone not to listen to the doctors though.

Totally agree, he's already set himself back an extra 2 months and now further because of the surgery. He should have been operated on right away

I hope he can return at 100% somewhere down the road he is a great talent and the little bit I saw of him in the media seems like a pretty genuine good guy.

The Cardinals did the same shit with Furcal, Motte and Carpenter...waited too damn long.

Just fix it and move on.

Sucks for the Mets though.

So, Harvey had TJ surgery basically five minutes ago and they're already trotting out the "ahead of schedule" line. That might be a record.

When's the last time a player on rehab was behind schedule? Or right on schedule? Has it ever happened?

I don't care if he comes back two or 3 months ahead of schedule. It was stupid on his part and the teams part to think some rest might do him some good. Should've had the surgery done a week or so after he got the results of the injury. No sympathy on my part.
