Limewire

This is a good program for getting songs and videos but it is also illegal. It can give you very expensive programs for free. It can also give you illegal things like child pornography videos and pictures. Also it can give you free credit card numbers and pornography website passwords. This program is illegal so why haven't they removed it? How do you feel about this subject?

Personally I use it, and I know I am not the only one, but I am only there to download some songs and a couple of wrestling matches, I am not there to get child porn neither passwords, or different programs, but what I dont really understand is why do they put it on a site like download.com so everyone can get it, if it's illegal.

If you use it to get movies and programs, you'll have a higher chance of getting a virus. If you use it just to download songs(like me), then your chances are much lower. I can't really imagine how you could put a virus in an 3.3 MB MP3 file.

I used to use limewire a lot, but for some reason it deletes itself off my computer every once in awhile. I found that it is much more reliable insofar as downloading songs, however... in comparison to say kazaa... the problem with kazaa is people would flood it with just bogus files that didn't do shit, that's what motivated me to get limewire.

Obviously the controversy is over the legality of sharing files. Or not necessarily a question of whether it is legal, but rather if it is ethical or beneficial. With music, some artists throw a fit and some don't. Personally, I like having the ability to download songs and most times I can be motivated to pick up the album. With certain programs it can get messy, but I'm sure the companies are still making money. Just let it be known that I'm not spending fuckin 100+ bucks for paintshop.

As for the question about why haven't they removed it... previous court rulings have established the precedent that the actual program is not, in and of itself, illegal which is why companies like limewire won't be sued. Instead, that legal precedent has made law enforcement focus more on individual illegal activity. The position of particular companies would be that they never intended for their product to be used to share copyrighted material, and I think that might be one of their rules of conduct... aside from that, there would never be any regulation for the removal of P2P programs, so whatcha gon do?

Thanks for the explanation buddy. Limewire is the best thing I use for downloading since I had Napster and we all know what happen to that program. There's a lot of people who put files for people to download and they're viruses which is why I am always sketchy in downloading big files. But Limewire or other programs is all about making money out of it, that's why bands like Metallica tried to sue programs like these cause they feel there losing a lot of money out of it, which is true in a way.

Yeah the program isnt illegal. I believe even when you dl the program it prompts you "are you going to use this prgram to dl copyrighted content" if you hit yes the program wont dl. If you hit no it will let you dl it.

LimeWire Sharebear Kazaa are all chalkful of viruses. I do all my dling throught Bittorrent with the azureus client. Its much safer i have yet to recieve any viruses through it or spyware and ive dled approximatly 350+ gigs of material.

Also since its share ware its not illegal because usually on tracker for bittorrent sites theres a disclaimer "that they arent responsible for what people share over their tracker", or "Users that use this trackers also are owners of the material." Because if you dl say an album (most things on bittorrent are batched in albums) and you own the album its not illegal in anyway shape or form. Its just giving you a copy of material you already purchased.

Thats how the P2P network can stay alive although some torrent sites like lokitorrent or suprnova got shut down.

<b><i>Yeah I got a ton of viruses... It's too bad that like peeps have to lose money with it all, but... maybe the question should be what's more important, the culture of music or money? Like should the money go rightfully to the artists or should we be promoting culture and.. shit lol

It's true if they like what they do they shouldn't mind if there not making money out of this, especially if your already set for life. I would understand if it's an up an coming band, and they need our support I dont mind if they complain if they don't agree people using downloading music programs cause they need our support to survive. But people like Metallica complains I just shake my head in discuss.

Illegal downloading's still going to happen with or without Limewire. And yeah, Limewire also gives some support for up and coming bands, but there's Purevolume for that.
