Jorge Garbajosa

Toronto Star - According to the Spanish sports publication Marca, the Raptors have made overtures about signing free agent Jorge Garbajosa, a 6-9 Spanish forward. NBA officials who have seen the 28-year-old play make it sound like he'd be a great fit.

According to the Toronto Star, Garbajosa is said to be a tough inside presence despite his height and could also be able to stretch defences with three-point shooting ability. He's not a true NBA centre  more along the lines of the undersized Kurt Thomas of the Phoenix Suns  but he could do some of the dirty work under the basket to take some of the pressure off the likes of Chris Bosh and Charlie Villanueva.

It's an interesting move. And here is a more interesting bit if your a conspiracy theorist.
jorge, played with bennton treviso. And was a head of Uros Slokar (and why uros played soo few mins in europe) raptors second second round pick in 05.
both are 4/5s, but Uros isn't near as good at the 5 as jorge.
Also, roko Leni ukic was with BT before he went to KK split. And was then sent to, Tau Crematica. Tau, is the big rivalry of BT. The two biggest and best teams in europe and best out side of the nba. Bt, beat the raps in the pre season this year. And there top player, and a top prospect in this years draft, andrea bargnani, played very, very well vs teh raps and cb4 specifically. With 15 points, 7 boads, and 2 blocks in as usualy limited action. Colangelo loves Bt, and Andrea.
And has been rumoured to be BC hoice for the no1 over all pick. talk about a strange set of coincidents eh? all we need now is for teh raps who are changing there colours this year, to take on the BT green and white colours lol.

For many years the Raptors have been trying to go big now they're and if they had Jorge I think he would be a good addition but would be like Fabricio Aberto from the Spurs but would just be more involve in the team then him. I think he would be a great addition to the team. I heard a lot of great things about him, like he has a very good outside game. I think he would help the team a lot. Also I don't have any faith that Uros will ever play for the Raptors.

jorge has a midly servicable out side game for europe. But his specialty is defense. Mostly in the paint, but in europe he has shown the ability to cover SFs too. uros, is a far better prospect. jorge, is pretty old. Uros may well spend more time in the dl this year than the nba. But he really tore up the summer league last year. He's got a lot of game. Was considered a first round pick for a long while but fell due to the depth of the 05 draft ala roko leni ukic.

Playing good defence in europe is way different then playing good defence in the NBA. There's no players like Shaq, Big Ben or Tim Duncan to guard down there. So you can't really judge what he does in europe because it's a whole different game. But I'd still take a chance on him.

Yeah, europe is a different game. But he can possible be a land lord type of low post specialist. not vs shaq, but then there is no one who can defend shaq. other than the hack a shaq D. I forgot, jose calderon also played in BT, along side both jorge, and Mago.

If Toronto is going in the direction I think they're going, then Jose will be on the team next year. Im not toally sure if his rebounding and toughness compares in the NBA. He proved himself in Europe alright. Going along with Vince Carter & WBB's point, European and International Basketball as a whole is very different from the NBA. When he does come to the league he is going to be undersized and many quality centers will take advantage of that. Sure he could spread the defense with his shooting, but then again why was Matt Bonner brought to town then?

I am always sketchy about europeans. A Dirk Nowitsky or Peja Stjakovic dont come on the scene that often. I know that Jorge is not that type of player but he's still considered a top player in europe. But if he could come in and help on the defensive side and get some key rebounds that were in desperate need for I am hundred percent behind Colangelo and the signing.

I have follow the Spanish League and He's one of the best players. I think that He is the more intelligent player in Spain. Is very Tall, good shoot (for 2 and 3) but He isn't too strong. I like Jorge Garbajosa but to play in NBA is not good.
