So.. I hear this was the war that marked the 1980's.. what was the outcome if anyone knows.. Wikipedia is to confusing. In easy words please. What would have happened if the American Navy never helped Saddam?

It was a bloody stalemate of sorts. Biological weapons were used, and both sides had weapons the United States sold them. Saddam's frustration at being unable to win the war probably led to him invading Kuwait, and he wanted to feel like he was heading an empire.

Iran should probably have won that, it's got a big advantage in population. However, most of the south border is desert, so even without assistance I think Iraq could have held out. By the end they were ready to sue for peace anyway.
