How would you split $5,000 in stocks?

Ok, let's assume you have $5,000 to put into some stocks. What current stocks would you split it into?

I haven't been following the market recently so I have to do some catching up, but I will try to get a breakdown list soon with my picks.

I'd go to the industry section of yahoo and pick some siliver:

and some gold:
http://biz.yahoo.com/ic/134.html
and maybe some steel
http://biz.yahoo.com/ic/130.html

I would get in slowly. Materials have had an incredible run and there is always a chance for a few down days. But, the long term trend is up

Wow, that's very interesting. You would pick silver, gold, and steel over any stock in the stock market?

Did you ever mess with buying things like coffee beans?

After today, I wouldn't go into materials at least for a few weeks. I expected a correction of prices, but today was just a bloodbath. Sorry for any bad advice. I would look for stocks in dependable sectors such as food supply. I'd find the boring stuff for right now. The Iranian thing, the dollar spiraling down, there is just a lot of jitters on wall street.
