"um.....Andrew?? Nevada is a state"
-Bunny_roses
LOL Yes, it is a state. But the only hip cities here are Vegas (of course) and Reno is cool, too.
And I was also wondering myself why we celebrate Nevada Day, what it means, so I went ahead and "wikipedia'd" it. LOL
Nevada Day commemorates the admission of the state of Nevada into the union on October 31, 1864. The first known observance of Nevada Day (originally known as "Admission Day") was by the Pacific Coast Pioneer society during the 1870s. It was not until 1933 that the state legislature designated October 31st as Nevada Day and a state holiday.
In 2003, the legislature decided to celebrate the holiday on a Friday hoping that a three-day weekend would generate more interest. Nevada Day is now observed on the last Friday in October.
And no, not everyone has the day off. LOL Vegas never sleeps, casinos never close.
