So one day our class had a discussion on which one would be more dangerous, a gun or a sword. Surprisingly, many people argued sword. I really don't know why because a sword requires skill, strength, and has limited range. A gun requires practically no skill, except for the ability to aim. All te strength you need is holding a gun and pulling the trigger. A gun's not limited by a range (that a person can run by the time your aiming).

I guess it depends on the person handling the sword. If they are a trained swordsman then they might be able to trick the person into emptying out the gun, leaving them useless.

But if it's a novice, then it's the gun ftw.

Skilled swordsman vs. skilled gunsman, then gun. Novice on novice, still gun. Pro sword on novice gun, then still gun, unless they're really close to each other (like within 10 yards, 15 at the most). What do you expect the swordsman to do, block bullets? You're far more likely to be able to block a sword by just using the gun, assuming it even comes to that :/

Even if you run out of bullets, a gun can block a sword, and be used as a quick, blunt object. And assumiong you use a pistol whic reloads with a clip, reloading is no problem at all, and you get like, 10 shots a clip. If you use a shotgun, the swordsman is screwed, and should be running for his life. If you use a rifle, there's no reason at all you should be anywhere close to the swordsman. If you have a revolver, reload doesn't take too long unless you're an amateur. The only gun that doesn't work here is a musket, and you'd have to be an idiot to be using one of those around for defense.

Given the difficulty to shoot a moving target by anything less than an expert marksman at more than 10 yards, sword. If the swordsman is in a vaugely eliptical charge and gets grazed, big deal. One he's within the range, the gunman is f*cked.

Great, it can block. But it's unwiedly and can't produce the speed to inflict any kind of damage unless the swordsman completely misses (which is unlikely with typical median reflexes).

I would say guns are more dangerous, but swords are much more deadly. Anyone can use a gun, that's why they are so dangerous, but with a sword in the hands of someone that knows how to use it, it can be bad. Anyways, swords are much cooler, unless you're Vincent.

    Guns:

Easy to use, you don't need no practise whatsoever. Wanna kill someone? Pull out the gun. Aim and pull the trigger.

    Swords:

You need to have lots of practise here. It's just easy stabbing someone, Swords always torture people. You stab them, they suffer and die from pains.

Unless, of course, you want any semblance of distance in your shot. Then you also need steady hands, knowloge of how gravity will affect your bullet's trajectory so you can adjust your sights based on the distance you are from the taget, an ability to adjust for wind, you have to know where to shoot to get the desired effect.

And in close range, you need the ability to reload, and fast, as well as a quick draw.

Also, terrain matters. In an enviroment with cover, the gunman is most likely disadvantaged. The swordsman can slowly get closer while the gunman wastes ammo, and at some distance the gunman is totally screwed. Attacking a running target coming from anywhere besides straight at you is insanely difficult with a gun other than a shotgun.
