I'm looking for something inexpensive that can do basic text effects as well as being user friendly. Something in the $100 or so range.

    Any ideas?

    Adobe Premier is supposedly good.
And you don't have to pay for it ;o.

for basic text effects how about using Subtitle workshop. Virtual Dub is really great for editing avi files. I use power director or adobe premier to join movies together or add a soundtrack.

Well you can make good texts in Photoshop and then import them into your video software.

Other than that, After Effects is the best program for graphic effects but it's also the most expensive unless you obtain by an alternative means.

The first program I used was Sony Screenblast. It was $99 at Best Buy and it was what I used for a while in high school until I discovered AVID and Final Cut. I recommend looking up Screenblast if you're looking for something dirt cheap.

What editing program are you using at the moment if any?
