Global Warming, Truth or Hoax

Fakegate: The Obnoxious Fabrication of Global Warming - Forbes

This article has some interesting information on this global warming. I have not read this 418 page document but will probably do so soon. One other interesting thing to note from this:

As the Wall Street Journal observed on Feb. 21, while Heartland’s budget for the NIPCC this year totals $388,000, that compares to $6.5 million for the UN’s IPCC, and $2.5 billion that President Obama’s budget commits for research into “the global changes that have resulted primarily from global over-dependence on fossil fuels.” That demonstrates how an ounce of truth can overcome a tidal wave of falsehood.
It's hard to find a source on global warming, climate change, extreme weather, or whatever you want to call it that isn't prefaced with something like "nearly all scientists agree with this" or "any legitimate scientists agrees with this." Has anyone else noticed this?

You also have the issue of sample sizes of course, as mentioned in the other thread.

good article. This is key:
The bottom line is that the temperature records are not consistent with the theory that human “greenhouse” gas emissions are the primary cause of global warming. Those records do not show temperatures rising in conjunction with such ever rising emissions as the globe increasingly industrializes. Instead, the temperature record shows an up and down pattern that follows the pattern of natural influences on global temperatures, such as cyclical sunspots and solar flares, and cycles of ocean churning from warmer to colder temperatures and back, such as the Pacific Decadal Oscillation (PDO).

Moreover, the incorruptible and objective satellite temperature records show only modest warming starting in the late 1970s, which stopped roughly 10 years ago, with more recent declines. That is consistent with temperature proxy records found in nature, such as tree rings and ice cores. But that diverges significantly from the corruptible and subjectively compiled land based records, the repeated manipulation of which has prompted several prominent climate scientists to call for an investigation. Perhaps Gleick’s skills in falsification can be found more broadly among his colleagues.
Every dire prediction on global warming over the past 20 years has been dead wrong. So either a)Its a hoax and its nothing more than population control or b)Its real(man-made) but the effects are a fraction of what the experts claim and we've got plenty of time to test it and come up with a solution that doesn't involve a global socialist government.

This is probably the best global warming thing all year:
The same freaking magazine. In 1974 the polar vortex was proof of global cooling (OH NO!-PANIC!) and in 2014 the polar vortex is proof of global warming (OH NO!-PANIC!)

I don't see the evidence as conclusive either way but the fact remains all this pollution we are pumping into the atmosphere can't be good and has to have some affect on our temperatures. Whether its enough to really heat the planet up remains to be seen but it does have a negative effect on peoples health.

While some scientists funded by governments may have a vested interest in proving global warming some scientists funded by corporations have a vested interest in proving global warming doesn't exist so they can keep doing what they are doing. So who do you believe?

I am unsure of the book where I read about the fact that we were going through an ice age right now so I cannot provide the source but it is true that we are going through an ice age, a very small, very slow and not how people consider ice ages but we are going through an ice age never the less on the basis we have the ice caps to begin with.

Now I am unsure if Global Warming is or is not a reality. When "An Inconvenient Truth" came out I did not watch it, honestly I was not that bothered and to be honest it is not even a film, it is a lecture but what makes it worse is that the film is almost aimed aimed at the people who already believe it in which case why make it and if people who do not believe it go to see it they are unlikely to change their minds because of the nature of what it is, I doubt it would change many opinions.

I do not know if it is real like I say but there is not doubt the planet is getting hotter based on how much the ice caps have decreased. Is that down to global warming? I am unsure, I have had a look on google for records of the ice caps melting and I have been unable to find anything that shows me the level for which they have shrunk.

As Hilander says it may or may not be true but I see no reason not to try to decrease carbon emissions and emissions from nuclear power plants, the fact that a lot of times people in Japan have to walk around with masks over their faces because of pollution should be proof enough that maybe we should start thinking about doing something different.

What really gets me though is the attitudes of some people who believe in global warming and it should be changed. I have just gone to Youtube because I wanted to show a clip from the South Park episode "smug alert" but I have just found this instead:

Woman attacks man over truck

I mean seriously?? Where on earth does this woman get off doing this? What makes her think she can do this?! And the problem is that whilst I am sure there are people who are pleasant and want to make a difference but this person is NOT helping he cause...

It's kind of hard to deny that the Earth is warming, and warming at a rate faster than any in recorded history, which is admittedly a small sample size considering the age of the Earth. Still, there is reason to be concerned. Ice caps and glaciers are melting, sea levels are rising, which could have disastrous consequences for the heavily populated coastal areas such as New York City, and there are a lot of other problems we could be dealing with in the future.

Whether you believe global warming is a hoax or not, why not do everything you can to protect the planet anyway? It's the only one we've got, and we should try to give future generations a better planet than the one that was given to us.

Ice levels at the South Pole are actually pushing records right now there is so much.

I will add this is another subject where it is very hard to find an unbiased source. But based on the small sample size I don't see how anyone can claim 100% one conclusion vs another.

We should try to prevent pollution where reasonable and economically possible. But I don't think there is anything to flip out over as Al Gore would have you believe.

Truth.

Australia has been breaking all sorts of temperature records this summer. A town in Western Australia is expected to reach 50 degrees celcius at 9am somewhere next week. if that's not fucked, I don't know what is.

Just remember that weather <> climate. Whenever you hear someone argue, in all seriousness, that there's no global warming because of this or that cold snap: assume that that person is a charlatan or completely ignorant of the science. Either way, one should ignore them.

I don't think you should ignore opposing views because you don't know who funded the view you are subscribing too. They may have their own agenda, that seems to happen a lot anymore. If your going to make a informed opinion only knowing one side will not make you very well informed.

I think there is a argument for global warming caused by man but its not conclusive. I think we should take steps to correct anything man is contributing to this. If its not healthy for the planet its not healthy for us. We only have one planet we should take care of it. I agree we haven't been researching it for that long but we may not have another 100 years. By then it may be too late to turn it around if we are causing it.

Yes there is more ice in the antarctic but that's not the case for the arctic or other areas. Glaciers are disappearing all over the planet. Maybe they would have anyway but I do believe man has had a hand in pushing this along.

What blows my mind is that this "global warming" is a buzz-phrase that isn't even scientific. It has always been climate change because it fluctuates. I won't lie, it is funny to see these pea-brained morons on Facebook start acting all smug when it gets cold outside, like the scientists that research this stuff are so dumb that they didn't notice the cold air, as if it proves something. It does prove something, it proves that the American education system has failed a lot of people and there's a reason that as a country, we really suck at science.

That being said, climate change is always happening, it's part of the natural cycle of the world. What people get worried about is the release of chemicals into the air that have over time, dramatically changed how these systems work or interfered with them. Like a lot of serious issues, what pisses me off is how much the media trivializes it. There is no serious conversation happening anywhere on TV (they'll tell you otherwise but it doesn't take much intelligence to realize you're being fed a load of shit) and that's a problem in my mind because it is a legitimate concern and if even parts of several theories about the flow of the climate of the planet are true, we could be inviting big problems for ourselves.
