Are there any genres of music that you previously have never listened to and given a chance and then found out that you actually like it?

I never used to listen to dance or anything like that until recently and I found that some of it isn't that bad.

What about you guys?

I tried and liked most of everything as I was growing up. Went through genres like a grandad goes through werther's originals. The ones I least expected to were my Sinatra phase and my classical phase. I went through just about every symphony I could find. There was no internet back then though to sample music so I'd just grab some cd/cassettes from a specialist music store in town and see what I'd ended up with.

Far cry from the stuff I listen to now (Rock/alt/indie) but I still have a soft spot for classical. I learned to play some of them on keyboard too. :)

I'm able to like country as long as I'm listening to it on my terms. |:

This does not mean I will like every song, nor will I always listen consistently, just that I'll only listen to what country actually sounds decent at the time.

If anyone else is playing it, I get royally pissed after like, half a song.

When i was younger i used to hate slipknot... before i actually listened to them. now they're one of my favourite bands ever!

Never used to listen to any rap music, now i listen to bands like Jurassic 5 and Hilltop Hoods all the time!

oh and went to a festival where the chemical brothers were playing. Didn't want to stick around cus i hated them. Show started; Danced my ass off!!!

After that happening MANY times i now keep an open mind to music. Though i still haven't really found a punk band that i like that much.....

I used to love pop music when I was younger. Anything in the charts I'd always be listening to and I used to wish I was them, singing infront of the mirror etc. One day when I was being nosey in my sister's bedroom I found a Korn tape and a Limp Bizkit tape. I listened to them both and found that I really liked their unique sounds. It was completely different to what I was used to but from then on I left pop/chart music behind and fell in love with rock/indie/alt.

I already listen to various genres.

But what do you call that music genre where it's hard to recognise the melody of the song because it's mostly just noise and the singer is just screaming random words above that noise with his monster voice....

Should I give it a chance?

Alternative. While I still hate a lot of it, I've found quite a lot of solidly 'alternative' bands (Osmus, Lostprophets, Rev Theory, Theory of a Deadman) that are rather good.
