PC Games FPS recommendations please

Clive

I've played Half Life 2 three times and HL2-Episode One twice. As you see, I think HL2 etc is a great game but I need something new. I loved MDK2 (anyone remember that - it was a great FPS with loads of action and humour and outstanding graphics for the time). Trouble is, I hate all that Rambo, war-is-glorious macho BS but like good graphics, shooting things and working out the odd tricky puzzle for getting through a level.

Can anyone recommend a really good single player FPS for PC to match those games? I'm trying Splinter Cell - Chaos Theory but am alrready irritated by uniforms, the stereotypes and the militaristic deep-throated voice-overs, however good the game play probably is.

Thanks out there.

ok then

:D Try these :

Quake 4
Fear
Painkiller
Prey
Ghost Reacon AWF
Starwars Republic Commando
Any Jedi Knight
Swat 3
Swat 4
Doom 3
Soldier of Fortune 1 & 2
Hitman : Bloodmoney

If you are after puzzles, Hitman and Prey are full of them. Most of
the others are tactical shooters. Depending on what you think is
glorifying war, being a soldier myself, I can honestly say that none
of these games truly simulate the proper experience of a real to life
contact. However, it is still fun to blow s*&t up, so it doesn't bother me
how over the top any of these games get - you get to kill people, without
having to be worried about dying for real! How awesome is that!?

I heard FarCry was pretty good also, by UbiSoft.

My personal favorite at the moment is BattleField 2142, but that's really not a single player game. There's single player "multi-player" with bots but that hardly counts.

TaskForce mentioned this already, but another one that is supposed to have a really awesome single player is F.E.A.R., which already has an expansion out too. :)

I say you go with fear. I own it and it is the best game i have. You should get yourself a good rep by playing tdms if your goin to be on multiplayer.

Trust me, I'm The Doctor.

FEAR has a lot of drawbacks, and it's a very linear with puzzle solving type of game. It's easy to get lost.

Thats a pretty good list to start with. I would've said similar.

Re: ok then

There would have been Star Craft: Ghost, but for some unknown reason Blizzard stopped working on it... Probably to put more time and resources into WOW, the bastards. If you're looking for a good Elder Scrolls game and happen to be poor and can't afford a high-end computer, Morrowind is good.

Hmm... A good list so far.

Maybe Halo 2, or Soldier of Fortune?
Soldier of Fortune is pretty graphic, with limbs being blown off and such.

And yea, MDK is a great game, and hard.

Had you an Xbox, I would tell you to give Black a shot.
