    Gun History
After reading the following historical facts, read the part
    about Switzerland twice.
In 1929, the Soviet Union established gun control.. From 1929 to 1953,
about 20 million dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were roundedup and exterminated.
In 1911, Turkey established gun control. From 1915 to 1917, 1..5 million
Armenians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
Germany established gun control in 1938 and from 1939 to 1945, a total
of 13 million Jews and others who were unable to defend themselves were
    rounded up and exterminated.
China established gun control in 1935. From 1948 to 1952, 20 million
political dissidents, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
Guatemala established gun control in 1964. From 1964 to 1981, 100,000
Mayan Indians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
Uganda established gun control in 1970. From 1971 to 1979, 300,000
Christians, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
Cambodia established gun control in 1956. From 1975 to 1977, one million
educated people, unable to defend themselves, were rounded up and
Defenseless people rounded up and exterminated in the 20th Century
because of gun control: 56 million.
You won't see this data on the US evening news, or hear politicians
    disseminating this information.
Guns in the hands of honest citizens save lives and property and, yes,
gun-control laws adversely affect only the law-abiding citizens
Take note my fellow Americans, before it's too late!
The next time someone talks in favor of gun control, please remind them
    of this history lesson.
    With guns, we are 'citizens.'
    Without them, we are 'subjects'.
During WWII the Japanese decided not to invade America because they knew
    most Americans were ARMED!
If you value your freedom, please spread this anti-gun control message
    to all of your friends.
The purpose of fighting is to win. There is no possible victory in
defense. The sword is more important than the shield, and skill is more
important than either. The final weapon is the brain. All else is

I saw this piece of chainmail on a facebook pole. Do you agree with correlation between gun control and genocide? Albeit, this may be irrevelant to America, I see this as a very good point: Citizens should be able to defend themselves against their Gov't.

Interesting if it's true - that's the key though - IF it's true.

Obviously it would be easier to kill thousands of people if you have weapons and they don't.

    pro2A Hell, It's about time!

I for one will never be a victim of genocide... if they come for me they better bring plenty of body bags and guns. I'll go out swinging.

I checked up the fact on Switzerland, and thats kind of true, Switzerland has an acting militia, and members of the militia keep their assault rifles in their homes, and with what used to be 50 rounds of ammo, and a 20 and 30 round magazine. While Ammo is no longer issued, the assault rifles are. But to own one, you have to be a member of the militia

So then, if private gun ownership is there to deter moves limiting freedom and rights, why was the militia movement in the USA all so rabid Bush supporters?

And if the ultimate purpose of private gun ownership is to, if necessary, face down the military then, hey, why not make grenade launchers, tanks and artillery legal for private use, too?

And funny the article mentions Guatemala, considering just what event led them to becoming more or less a failed state...

Their's a differance between giving people fire arms and weapons of war.

There is no difference if the ultimate purpose of private gun ownership is the ability to face down the military if necessary.

Mind, most conservatives (which are usually the pro-gun side) would brand anybody doing so (going against the military or domestic enforcment agencies) a traitor. Its weird how many American conservatives are often dismissive and reverend of the government at the same time...

The point of gun ownership is not to repel the military. Gun ownership is about self defense and recreation. This article only shows a correlation between private gun ownership, and genocides that happened there. And Gun ownership is in no way conservative. Its a god given right. we have a right to defend ourselves against wrong, and it has nothing to do with being a traitor. If a platoon of american soldiers came to my door and wanted to kill me and my family you'd be damn sure I'd do my best to fight them off.

Make up your mind. Those two sentences are contradictary: Either private gun ownership can prevent genocides, by enabling the population to stand up to the armed forces (well, theoretically at least), or they do not and that is not the purpose of them. In the former case my argument stands, in the latter case the argument of your opening post (such as it is...) is completly irrelevant.

God given, eh? Well, you do sound like a conservative to me, and most of the most fervent gun "right" supporters are, so...
