What's your favorite instrument? You don't have to play it, but just like how it sounds.

The Morin khuur from Mongolia. It's only two strings, but has a lot of forlorn sounds. A lot of Eastern movies have it (Hero is a good example).

Example song, with a little slideshow of Mongolia:

Probably the most expressive of the large stringed instruments, and helps avoid the issues I have with the high sounds of the violin, the cello is a mirculous instrument.

Example (One, a song from Metallica done by...Apocalyptica)

Ordinary objects used as instruments. Here's the group "Stomp" doing some crazy shit with poles.

The electric guitar probably. When played well, it's like it speaks to the soul. I think I made a thread about the best guitar solos a while ago. They win.

Yeah I'm going to have to say electric guitar. There's something in the sound that just drives the blood for me.

Cello. I don't play it, but it has an impressive range in the sounds it can produce, without hurting the ears. I find the cello a nice median between the bass and the violin.

Wow. This is hard to answer because I have to cheat.

    To play? Definitely the piano.

To listen to? Definitely the E. Guitar, which is the most popular so far, it seems. I think that the solos are so beyond amazing. And plus, they have songs where the lyrics are "sung" by the E. Guitar, and it sounds beyond awesome. (Sorry, I'm a rocker chick, I s'pose).

To..."play"? A keyboard, a synth, or a turn table. Keyboards have different sounds, synths have more, plus beats and such, and a turn table has too much to name. With a studio, playing with this things makes your options endless.

voice .. is my first choice .. but I presume you wont accept that as an instrument .. so I will go with the Tenner Sax (so much gutz), Double Base close second .. Pan flutes (when played well they are so spiritual ) & raw percussion ..

see STOMP .. as mentioned above ..

I particularly like street music .. improve performances conducted with whatever happens to be on hand .. gypsy music, old jewish/Russian folk .. Irish folk & afro American sessions on the street corner (really enjoyed seeing groups of guys @ the warehouse i worked @ in Dc lining up & singing "I got sunshine" when we had a few min loose) .. also hillbilly music .. offf the top of my head ..

Basically music that comes from the heart rather than from technical knowhow .. there is nothing like a good song or rhythm session to break up hard times ..

Stomping is pretty cool. The stomp team at school is amazing. They're pretty much all that's worth watching at assemblies.

Voice can be an instrument (ie, beatboxing, or acapella instrumentalization).

Blue Man Group and their imitators are cool (ie, largely percussion). En examplum, t3h Halo theme song:

After consideration, I may have to say the piano is my favorite instrument. Aside from the guitar, the piano sounds better and gives off more emotion. Who knows, maybe I like both equally and can't decide.

:clappy: Go Merc! :clappy: Do you play it or just listen to it? I know that you -try- to play the guitar already.
