ATLANTA -- Warrick Dunn was released by the Atlanta Falcons on Monday, one day after the club signed free agent Michael Turner.

Dunn, who ran for 720 yards and four touchdowns this past season, spent six years with the Falcons. The 11-year NFL veteran became expendable after the signing of Turner, who was the backup to San Diego's LaDainian Tomlinsion.
Dunn became the 22nd NFL player to top 10,000 career yards, and totals 10,179 yards on 2,484 carries -- a 4.1 yard-per-carry average. He also has 463 receptions for 4,009 yards.

He was past his prime and the Falcons are rebuilding. It wasn't a shock after they signed Turner.

I wouldn't say he's past his prime, I believe he still has a lot left in the tank and whichever team he signs with, he'll be helping that team in different ways. But I totally agree with you that it was expected after they signed Michael Turner.

I personally think Turner was the right way to go for the Falcons. I've been impressed with him the last couple years I saw him play for the Chargers. Filling the shoes of a RB like Dunn will not be easy but I think Turner will fit in nicely for them.
