Earth Hour

On Saturday, March 29, 2008, Earth Hour invites people around the world to turn off their lights for one hour – from 8:00pm to 9:00pm in their local time zone. On this day, cities around the world, including Copenhagen, Chicago, Melbourne, Dubai, and Tel Aviv, will hold events to acknowledge their commitment to energy conservation.

What are your thoughts about this?

Oh, shit. I'm going to be working as well. But I'll make sure the lights and stuff are off while I'm gone. lol

haha. and that is a point well made. This is the exact kind of "conservation" measure that the public loves and which accomplishes nothing. Just like the "don't buy gas this day" schemes.

No one has to give up anything or make any kind of real change in their life and yet the event is touted as being an actual effort to conserve energy. What a joke. Try riding your bike to school/work more. Or bump your thermostat up a bit higher in the summer and a bit lower in the winter. Make a real permanent change, don't just pretend.
