The extra-large, extra-priced DSI XL unveiled in Japan early this morning, will be coming to North America and Europe in the first quarter of 2010, Nintendo tells Kotaku.
"A new iteration of the Nintendo DSi system will be introduced in Japan on November 21, 2009," according to a statement from Nintendo released to Kotaku. "To be known as Nintendo DSi LL in Japan, and as Nintendo DSI XL in North America and Europe, it will offer a screen 93% larger than the current Nintendo DS Lite with a better view angle, an additional longer touch screen stylus, and preinstalled Nintendo DSiWare software. The new version will arrive in North America and Europe in the first quarter of calendar year 2010."
No word yet on how much the DSi XL will sell for in North America, though the DSi LL will sell for ¥20,000 (US$220) in Japan.
Any takers?
It's bigger than the DSI and has the same features. I opted not to get it beacuse of the fact that it has NO new features, and just a bigger screen. I just got a DSI and it will arrive tomorrow hopefully.

The battery life is the same, the WiFi capability and configuration is the same, the camera and extra features are the same, and the only thing that's bigger ids the screen. Not worth $50 extra.

.

For those of you that don't know ohw big the 93 percent increase is, the current DSI has a 3.25 inch screen, the new one is 4.20.

It's ALOT bigger and alot less portable. If your looking for something to just sit around home with it's good. I know that an extra 2 inches is not that much, but you probably won't be able to fit it into your pocket.

Since it's a remake of the DSi the fact that it can't support GBA games really kills it for me as I have a few of those left that I love playing almost constantly. However if I could afford it and the GBA games were not an issue I would probably look into it since it would make Knights in the Nightmare less clustered.

Just a bigger screen...? That's it?

And why so soon, were there really people saying "Oh, I love the new DSi, but I really wish that the screen was just an inch bigger"?

An inch bigger, and 50 dollars more expensive. Be the verdict of weather it's worth it. To me it isn't. I have an old Gameboy Advance for my gameboy games. The original one, no blacklight, theres an external light that you hook into the link cable spot (no wireless) that gives it light. Rechargable batteries ftw, no charger =]
