Car ploughs into Queen's day pageant

A racing car taking part in the Queen's day pageant ploughed into the crowd watching the event in Apeldoorn. An unknown number of spectators were injured, some of them seriously. There are also reports of fatalities, including children.

Reporters on the spot say the car drove at high speed, hitting a number of people that were thrown into the air. The car crashed into a monument for Queen Wilhelmina. The driver is still inside the car. Emergency services are rushing to the spot to provide aid to the victims.

Eye witnesses speculated that the accident may have been an attempted attack on the Royal Family.

The incident occurred minutes after a luxury coach carrying the Royal Family passed the spot. The coach was stopped and the pageant cancelled.

Fatalities have not been confirmed yet.
Apparently the guy in the passenger seat jumped out of the window just before it hit the crowd.

A really weird accident.. either the driver went completely insane or it was indeed an attempt to crash into the coach carrying the Royal Family..
Sick shit.

Update: according to an eye-witness the car sped up before bursting through two barriers and the crowd. Seems to confirm this was not an accident...

Update 2: according to a newspaper 4 fatalities. Suspect driver said to be around 25 years of age. It better not be a muslim

Thats horrible. Lets hope that there are no fatalities or serious injuries but that seems unlikely.

It is a weird scenario, I'd like to know the motive or some kind of reason as they investigate this.

Apparently he followed the royal family's bus all around the route. At this point the chances of it being an accident are very very slim.

Suspect is said to be a blond caucasian male.. one can only speculate about the motive for his deed.
------
Press conference:
4 deaths, another 5 heavily wounded.
38 years old, native dutch, no links to any terrorist groups, no history of psychological issues. Heavily wounded in hospital, currently undergoing surgery. No clues about the motive, but the police have confirmed that it was no accident, but done on purpose.. :shake:
------
Update: Suspect studied during daytime and worked in security during the night. Lost his job and was forced to leave his appartment. Rumours say he was not allowed by his ex-wife to see his children. The last few months noone was allowed into his appartment..

:stare:
------
Update again:
Rumours claim suspect is brain dead. 5th fatality also confirmed :shake:
edit: royal family was indeed the target. Possibly because he was not allowed to watch his children 'in the name of her majesty' (a sentence which is read prior to a verdict). He probably didn't succeed in hitting the bus because either the car was too wrecked or because he was too seriously injured after the initial crashes.

This story sends shivers down me. What is the mood like in NL at the moment?

The motive(if that is it) is insane just like his actions. The one part so far though that shocks me is, if he is brain dead yet he was inside the car protected by a cocoon of metal, what was it like for those on the outside, it must of been terrible.:(

Some Queens Day celebrations are still going on.. but of course, not in the way they were supposed to be held. Most people are in grief.

It's 'fortunate' the suspect is a lone looney and not a jihadist or someone with ties to the extreme left. An ideologically inspired attack would have been much worse for the social and political climate.
But you know, after all we've been through in the last few years, this is another tough blow for the nation.
