Christopher Nolan considering Inception video game

Christopher Nolan considering Inception video game | Joystiq

There's a thought that's been lodged in our mind ever since we saw Christopher Nolan's psychological action-heist blockbuster, Inception: "Man, all these layers of unreality would make for a pretty great video game." Now, we're not sure if that idea came to us naturally, or if it was smooshed in there by a small crew of impossibly attractive heroes, but we don't seem to be the only ones who had it -- Nolan recently voiced his desire to turn the film's universe into a video game during a Rome press conference.

"[What] we are looking at doing is developing a videogame based on the world of the film, which has all kinds of ideas that you can't fit into a feature film," Nolan explained. "That's something we've been talking about and are looking at doing long term, in a couple of years." That sounds promising, but we feel compelled to inform Mr. Nolan that Tim Schafer and Double Fine beat him to the punch, like, five years ago.

Still, the film's impressive take at the box office ($753 million so far) might give an interactive follow-up a large, interested audience. Oh, and the fact that a game wouldn't be pressured into launching alongside a movie (this one would be years late!) would be the source of more ... optimism than usual.
It's a few months old but just ran across it. What do you think?

I think it could make an interesting video game...All those different dream layers. I guess it would depend what direction they took it. I would probably pick it up to play if it went ahead just because I loved the movie so much.

I would definitely rent this, especially if Nolan had a lot to do with it. I'd kind of like it to be Inception meets Heavy Rain. I love the gameplay from that game & think it'd be interesting in something like Inception. I don't know though, it might not work.

Haters gonna hate.
Honestly, he shouldn't. Unless it is amazing, I would be disappointed regardless.

If he was heavily involved I would have total confidence in it being great.
Thing is, will he try to make it like a film?

The techniques used in making films can rarely be carried over into the art of making a game, and when done, the game sometimes suffers for it. In my mind, there's only one game from a film director that's been really good, and that's Boom Blox. And that's because Spielberg focused first and foremost on designing a game.
